[this is how Billy Hargrove packs a spare helmet: he ties it to his ass, pretty much. it’s a black thing, more to match Eddie’s bandana than the bike. Billy’s is azure blue, the same colour that the Camaro had been.
he tosses it once he’s parked up, revs the engine and waits until Eddie’s on, settled in, before he speeds off fast. there’s nothing like it, really. the speed, the wind, the noise. ]
[it’s a longer drive through central city, moving through the main streets to the slightly shadier parts. it’s where the best shit is, by rule of thumb. drugs, bars, music, and, of course, where the drum set Billy’s hand his eye on is.
he parks in the alley by the side, bike partially hidden by the big wastebins and some gimmicky decor. when he takes the helmet off, his curls are fresh, though slightly flat. he’s wearing a tshirt under his jacket too that might be the one Steve stole for him. it’s definitely Eddie’s anyway.
inside is dark, the music loud and heavy and at first, Billy drifts a little to the newer tech - amps, studio equipment, the wireless headphones - before he circles the drums with serious consideration.
there is maybe one or two people - staff and customer - who double take at both him and Eddie, strange little lightbulbs of recognition. Billy doesn’t register - no one’s ever recognised him in the street before. But one, excited, tells Eddie how much he loved his last live - that he’s real good with his hands. Billy almost chokes.]
[ He clocks being noticed. Always does. Keeps it in the back of his mind as he surveys the equipment, eyes the guitars like he doesn't already have three and one isn't strapped to his back.
The person approaches and his smile is stapled on. And then the wonderous thing happens. How Eddie goes from apprehensive about being noticed, slightly on guard the way he is in every new environment, to wide-eyed and excited. He's never been noticed by total strangers before and had that be a good thing.
Thanks man, loooooots of practice. He waggles his eyebrows suggestively, making them laugh. We're looking to get a band going. Any must haves from the 21st century we should know about? ]
[We have some really sick limited edition stuff - and yeah, the guitars are beautiful. shades of red, blue, even the pink ones look killer. a more tattoo’d kind of dude runs Billy through his needs, and for a bit Billy is just distracted by Eddie Munson looking so fucking comfortable. reminds him of Steve in his kitchen, happy and elated about being in love, comfortable enough to gush.
he blinks, once, snaps out of out. ] Yeah, sorry man. I just need something I can break in first - well loved and won’t mind if I suck for two weeks.
[there’s a laugh, a quiet understanding as he’s led and encouraged to sit at a black set that’s a little taped up, but beautiful and still loud. he goes at it, tests the snare and his coordination. grins when he’s asked if he’ll do some music lives too, tells them yeah, maybe.
to eddie, he nods down. taps the sticks against the plates.] I think she might be the one. You know I love an older woman.
[ he absolutely does not need another guitar. steve will kill him if he gets another guitar, but his hands are around the neck of an angel. he's fingering her softly and putting on a little show for his audience of one, head snapping up to look at billy's find, watching him give her a good test. ]
Didn't know the MILF thing extended to kits. [ his smile is wide and mischievous. ] She'll treat you right.
I'm an equal opportunist, E. [He should not encourage purchases, and yet, here he is nodding to the guitar, brow raised. ] We adding that to the order to? [and he pauses, glances at the very nice tattoo'd person who looks slightly awestruck -] Don't let him say no.
[He just has to sort out delivery details - after one more test, while he answers vaguely about his posting schedule, if he's seen the gossip sites (he hasn't), and whether or not they really are forming a band (maybe, thanks).
He could probably buy something else he doesn't need, but, well, he's got the essentials now. Bike. Drums, brand new car to pick up later. It's more than he ever thought he could have and he's not going to jinx his new life. ]
