[this is how Billy Hargrove packs a spare helmet: he ties it to his ass, pretty much. it’s a black thing, more to match Eddie’s bandana than the bike. Billy’s is azure blue, the same colour that the Camaro had been.
he tosses it once he’s parked up, revs the engine and waits until Eddie’s on, settled in, before he speeds off fast. there’s nothing like it, really. the speed, the wind, the noise. ]
[it’s a longer drive through central city, moving through the main streets to the slightly shadier parts. it’s where the best shit is, by rule of thumb. drugs, bars, music, and, of course, where the drum set Billy’s hand his eye on is.
he parks in the alley by the side, bike partially hidden by the big wastebins and some gimmicky decor. when he takes the helmet off, his curls are fresh, though slightly flat. he’s wearing a tshirt under his jacket too that might be the one Steve stole for him. it’s definitely Eddie’s anyway.
inside is dark, the music loud and heavy and at first, Billy drifts a little to the newer tech - amps, studio equipment, the wireless headphones - before he circles the drums with serious consideration.
there is maybe one or two people - staff and customer - who double take at both him and Eddie, strange little lightbulbs of recognition. Billy doesn’t register - no one’s ever recognised him in the street before. But one, excited, tells Eddie how much he loved his last live - that he’s real good with his hands. Billy almost chokes.]
[ He clocks being noticed. Always does. Keeps it in the back of his mind as he surveys the equipment, eyes the guitars like he doesn't already have three and one isn't strapped to his back.
The person approaches and his smile is stapled on. And then the wonderous thing happens. How Eddie goes from apprehensive about being noticed, slightly on guard the way he is in every new environment, to wide-eyed and excited. He's never been noticed by total strangers before and had that be a good thing.
Thanks man, loooooots of practice. He waggles his eyebrows suggestively, making them laugh. We're looking to get a band going. Any must haves from the 21st century we should know about? ]
[We have some really sick limited edition stuff - and yeah, the guitars are beautiful. shades of red, blue, even the pink ones look killer. a more tattoo’d kind of dude runs Billy through his needs, and for a bit Billy is just distracted by Eddie Munson looking so fucking comfortable. reminds him of Steve in his kitchen, happy and elated about being in love, comfortable enough to gush.
he blinks, once, snaps out of out. ] Yeah, sorry man. I just need something I can break in first - well loved and won’t mind if I suck for two weeks.
[there’s a laugh, a quiet understanding as he’s led and encouraged to sit at a black set that’s a little taped up, but beautiful and still loud. he goes at it, tests the snare and his coordination. grins when he’s asked if he’ll do some music lives too, tells them yeah, maybe.
to eddie, he nods down. taps the sticks against the plates.] I think she might be the one. You know I love an older woman.
[ he absolutely does not need another guitar. steve will kill him if he gets another guitar, but his hands are around the neck of an angel. he's fingering her softly and putting on a little show for his audience of one, head snapping up to look at billy's find, watching him give her a good test. ]
Didn't know the MILF thing extended to kits. [ his smile is wide and mischievous. ] She'll treat you right.
I'm an equal opportunist, E. [He should not encourage purchases, and yet, here he is nodding to the guitar, brow raised. ] We adding that to the order to? [and he pauses, glances at the very nice tattoo'd person who looks slightly awestruck -] Don't let him say no.
[He just has to sort out delivery details - after one more test, while he answers vaguely about his posting schedule, if he's seen the gossip sites (he hasn't), and whether or not they really are forming a band (maybe, thanks).
He could probably buy something else he doesn't need, but, well, he's got the essentials now. Bike. Drums, brand new car to pick up later. It's more than he ever thought he could have and he's not going to jinx his new life. ]
[ He does, in fact, try to say no. Misses the look that the people in the store give each other at the extravagant purchase being made on a whim for the metalhead. Clearly something is going on here, and they're privvy to it. He's too busy grabbing a nice new guitar pick, since Dustin Henderson now has his in his possession. ]
There are whole websites dedicated to gossip? [ Eddie asks with a frown, supposing he should have known better than to think it was limited to where he could see it. ] Fuck 'em. [ because he's expecting it to be the same way it was in hawkins. where it's less speculation about who he's fucking and more fixated on the idea that he's fucking disgusting. he rolls his new pick between his fingers. ] Am I getting lunch then, B?
Yeah, yeah. Burgers and fries - thanks, [he says, taking his receipt, sliding off his new baby with a sigh. ] We gotta get Steve into music, man. Otherwise we're gonna end up getting him a fucking bike rack for that mom car of his.
[There is a shared look that Billy does not see: quiet comprehension of something going on, and there is a third part to the equation who is, they suppose, the polar opposite. Billy meanwhile is glancing at the pick, then at Eddie. ]
[ Eddie considers it, twirling the pick around his fingers. then throws it, catches it, and makes his way on over to their selection, calling over his shoulder: ]
We're not gonna be allowed to hang out unsupervised anymore!
What's he gonna do, make us sit in the back of his mom car while he chaperones us?
[He can see it. But listen, look, he's being led to the bases. Some quiet confusion of what the fuck is going here, but a sale is a sale and, yes. ] Look, we can get him one that matches. He'll love that shit. Just think of those pretty brown eyes, E.
[ ugh. UGH. eddie is also weak for this, because these look cool. and steve learning to play bass is hot. teaching steve to play is hot. he tilts his head back with an exaggerated groan as if this is a burden and he's not elated.
he picks one up - black, with the same pattern as his latest impulse purchase. ]
[a hum of approval, fingering over the hardware, then the strings. he is the worst kind of enabler, actually. ] Hell fucking yes.
[besides he does. owe steve. for the little figurine. this is obviously equal value. ] - Can you add this to the same delivery?
[yes, they can, yes they will. big day for impulse purchases - ] Oh, yeah. You guys know where to buy a decent camera set up? We need lights and shit, right E?
Oh right, yeah... I been doing a little research on that. We're gonna need some studio lights, some kinda backdrop. [ he chews absently on a fingernail. ] That spare bedroom you got could be converted into a set.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. It's just the sofa bed anyway.
[He hums, - listens to the tattoo'd clerk list of directions to a decent supplier - then nods, distracted. ] Shoulda wrote a list, man. C'mon - we can figure out over loaded fries.
[He offers a quick thanks on their way out, makes sure his bike is still in place before the cross and head to where Billy hopes has at least good burgers. Like, thick. ] I keep wondering if I should get like a place, place, you know? In case a confluence throws up Max.
[he's not going hope Max ends up here, because well, he's still not sure about it really. still, he should - he should prepare, right? that's the right thing to do?]
You're gonna be able to buy a wholeass mansion by Christmas.
[ he clicks his tongue. ]
And not yet. I'm leaving that to him, y'know? My standard of living and his are worlds apart. Best I can do is poke around and make sure he's not dropping us right in the middle of crime alley because he can't tell a good neighborhood from a bad one.

he loves bikes. realizes that he's going to need to get one, find open country roads, if only so he and billy can speed down them at top speeds. ]
